Your Thunder, Your Rain

The thunder last night broke my sleep

Instantly I knew that it woke you too

Upright I flung, panicked and alone

Together with you

I screamed your name

Again and again

All I could do was listen

And feel your pain surrounding me

Your anguish flooded my bed

I wept and clung to your waist

I prayed that you forgive me still

That you remember our word— steadfast

Panting your name and hyperventilating

I let you turn me around

And show me how much you love me

You pressed my body into the bed

The storm beat down right overhead

Your thunder filled me and I overflowed

You overtook me and you growled

You rocked me back to sleep

You didn’t leave, you stayed

Caressing my dreams

With your gentle and steadfast rain
