I Smell Us

Forever now, when I smell… me

I smell us

Your sensitivity, like a painter who worships with brushstrokes

the red onion, and the shadow

that tethers it to his old wooden table

Your curiosity, like a compass navigating my body

You are forever enmeshed in my scent

I smell like love now

And every time I smell us, I miss you

And when I miss you

All I have to do is breathe

you in, back inside,

from where you came
