Our Garden
You beaconed me down your street
The other day
I saw you in the garden
For the very first time
An emblem of our future
You secured something, perhaps a tendril
To something tall, perhaps a rod
My soul to your love
That will be us together
Planting our love and feeding ourselves
I promise I’ll never do that again
The next time I see you in a garden
It will be ours
And I won’t be trying to hide my face
I won’t drive a little faster
When you see me
I won’t be afraid that I scared you
Though I believe you understand
How I could’ve been so risky
That my longing overpowered me
Or I just knew it would be safe just that once
Someday, we will be free from all of that
Someday, I will see you in our garden
From our window
And I will come out to join you
Just you and me in our garden
Free and at peace
Like the flowers we grow
Like the love that we sow
